Programs: Green Crew
Americorps Connecticut
Would you like to get paid while learning landscaping, environmental, leadership and life skills? Would you like to get in shape while working to make Hartford a better place to live and work?

We are now recruiting members for the 2010 Green Crew Program.

In the Green Crew AmeriCorps Program, our members work with community volunteers to beautify the city of Hartford while learning about the environment. Green Crew members are paid every two weeks, health insurance is included and upon successful graduation from the program in 6 or 12 months, each member receives a tuition voucher for trade school or college.

Orientation begins on March 1, 2010 and we are accepting 18 new members. If interested please take a look at the Green Crew member position description and fill out an application form. Once the application is received you will be called in for an interview.

Overview

The Green Crew carries out a wide range of projects throughout Hartford, including fee-based landscaping services for local nonprofits and labor assistance for Knox activities. The conservation corps is a team of out-of-school youth who are trained in landscaping and gardening in order to develop marketable skills while improving the appearance and productivity of Hartford's green space. Programs involving the Green Crew include Hartford Blooms, a collaboration with the Greater Hartford Arts Council; creation of community gardens; and maintenance of public spaces such as the Ancient Burying Ground, as well as other beautification projects.

The Green Crew program is made possible through funding from the Connecticut Commission on National and Community Service.
